BAND SAW BLADE

In the world of do-it-yourself, but also in more professional carpentry or blacksmithing, it is important to use equipment of good quality and finish to carry out work with extreme precision and professionalism.

Among the most commonly used machine tools for machining steel or all ferrous materials is the band saw. There are many types and makes to meet the various machining operations in which it is required, and there are also many types of band saw blade.

The band saw blade is undoubtedly the most important component of a good band saw, in order to achieve the optimum cutting precision required for the most complex professional jobs, but also for the most common DIY. The use of a well-made band saw blade is undoubtedly recommended, as it will allow you to perform the required work without worrying about imperfections or unwanted burrs; as a result, there will be less need for post-processing finishing.

The band saw blade can be of various types and can differ in blade thickness, blade size, type of toothing and material from which it is made. The most common materials used in the manufacture of a band saw blade are steel, high-performance carbon, tungsten carbide and bimetallic alloys. The band saw blade is used in a variety of sectors such as cutting materials such as wood, resins, plastics and cutting non-machinable materials such as glass, quartz, granite, graphite and marble. There are also some applications for cutting soft materials such as leather or rubber, and cutting foodstuffs.

Depending on the material to be processed, the band saw blade must have certain characteristics such as the width, which is the distance between the back of the blade and the tips of the teeth. The width then allows the following machining operations:

- for a precision cut, it is important to choose the widest blade available for the band saw model;

- for a contour cut, you must choose the widest blade that can cut the smallest radius.

Thin band saw blade thicknesses allow more flexibility on small flywheels, while thicker blade thicknesses are suitable for large feed pressures.

The blade tooth setting and tooth pitch can be single or variable and allows the following machining operations:

- single pitch for cutting solids with robust saws, such as wood cutting;

- variable pitch for cutting most ferrous materials.

The tooth shape of the band saw blade varies depending on the material to be cut. The tooth shape is determined by the cutting geometries used.
